What the Bible Says About Judging

  By Ben Rast

It seems that no matter how ignorant of the Bible people are, there is one verse that everyone knows.  No, it’s not John 3:16. Some people still don’t know that one.  However, everyone seems to know Matthew 7:1, wherein Jesus says, “Judge not, that ye be not judged” (KJV). In fact, the less of the Bible people know, the more they’re prone to know and repeat this verse.  If we had a nickel for every time someone accused us of “intolerantly” violating this verse, we could pay our server costs and possibly quit our day jobs.  But are these people right? When we cover false religions and beliefs – when we even label a belief as false – are we guilty of violating Jesus’ directive in this verse?  Or is there a greater context that is missing?

If we’re going to speak of context, it’s important to look at the entire passage from which the verse is lifted.  This is the way to perform proper exegesis (getting out of a passage what the writer intended) instead of engaging in eisegesis (forcing one’s own preconceived notions into the text).  My Bible lists the first six verses of Matthew 7 together as part of a common theme.  Here is this fuller excerpt from Jesus’ Sermon on the Mount:

1Do not judge, or you too will be judged. 2For in the same way you judge others, you will be judged, and with the measure you use, it will be measured to you. 3“Why do you look at the speck of sawdust in your brother’s eye and pay no attention to the plank in your own eye? 4How can you say to your brother, ‘Let me take the speck out of your eye,’ when all the time there is a plank in your own eye? 5You hypocrite, first take the plank out of your own eye, and then you will see clearly to remove the speck from your brother’s eye. 6“Do not give dogs what is sacred; do not throw your pearls to pigs. If you do, they may trample them under their feet, and then turn and tear you to pieces.”  (Matthew 7:1-6, NIV)

Two important points can be gleaned from this text.  First, it is clear that Jesus is addressing hypocrites – those who refuse to take responsibility for their own faults before judging the faults of others.  This is not an all-encompassing command to never judge.  Rather, it is a command against hypocrisy.  It is a directive to make sure our own house is in order before we judge others.  Not only is this clear by the explicit text in verses 3 through 5, but it is supported by the second noteworthy point – verse six calls on us to make judgments!  How are we to know whether we are giving dogs what is sacred, or throwing pearls before pigs unless we’ve judged a) what constitutes something sacred, and b) what constitutes the dogs and pigs described by this verse?  This verse is clearly symbolic.  It is not about literal dogs or pigs.  This metaphorical language refers to those who will not respect things that are sacred.  In order to know who fits this bill, we must make a judgment.  The context of this passage clearly indicates that we are not forbidden from passing judgment.  Indeed, we are required in this passage to make judgments.  We simply must not do so if we’re hiding from our own sins.

While simply putting this passage in context puts the lie to the assertion that we are not to judge, I don’t want to stop here.  I want to look at the rest of the New Testament.  After all, if Jesus opposed people making judgments, then He and His Apostles who wrote the New Testament would certainly not suggest otherwise.  The message of Scripture is cohesive.  It is complementary rather than contradictory.  If Jesus did not think people should judge, then this message should never be contradicted in the New Testament.

In John 7:24, we find Jesus talking again when he says, “Stop judging by mere appearances, and make a right judgment.”  Notice that Jesus didn’t stop speaking after his first two words.  If He had, that would have bolstered the contention that we shouldn’t judge.  But Jesus continues, and his entire sentence actually gives us some guidelines for judging.  He wouldn’t instruct us on how to judge if He didn’t want us to judge!  Jesus tells us something that we’ve often heard in other forms – don’t judge by appearances.  Growing up I remember hearing, “don’t judge a book by its cover” and “appearances can be deceiving.”  Well, Jesus said it first.  He tells us to not judge by mere appearances, and make our judgments right.  Some other translations read “righteous judgment.”  In other words, we should exercise caution when judging that we pierce the cover of what things appear to be, to make sure we’re judging what really is.

Some people are convinced that Jesus never judged others.  These are usually the same people that know nothing from the Bible beyond the words “judge not”.  Yet Jesus did not only tell us how to judge, He also gave us a plethora of examples.  Jesus’ first recorded words of His ministry are “Repent, for the kingdom of heaven is near” (Matthew 4:17).  How intolerant (by today’s standards) for Jesus to presume that his audience was sinful and needed to repent!  By this presumption, He judged them as sinful and in need of repentance.  In Matthew 5:22 (part of the Sermon on the Mount), Jesus said, “But I tell you that anyone who is angry with his brother will be subject to judgment. Again, anyone who says to his brother, ‘Raca,’ is answerable to the Sanhedrin. But anyone who says, ‘You fool!’ will be in danger of the fire of hell.”  It doesn’t get much more judgmental than bringing up H-E-double hockey sticks! If you continue in the Sermon on the Mount, you’ll find several more instances of Jesus discussing sinful thoughts and behaviors, proposing amputation as a preferable alternative to sin, and then more references to hell.  As we near the end of Jesus’ sermon, we find some boldly judgmental statements that call for us to make judgments:  “Enter through the narrow gate. For wide is the gate and broad is the road that leads to destruction, and many enter through it. But small is the gate and narrow the road that leads to life, and only a few find it. Watch out for false prophets. They come to you in sheep’s clothing, but inwardly they are ferocious wolves. By their fruit you will recognize them. Do people pick grapes from thornbushes, or figs from thistles? Likewise every good tree bears good fruit, but a bad tree bears bad fruit. A good tree cannot bear bad fruit, and a bad tree cannot bear good fruit. Every tree that does not bear good fruit is cut down and thrown into the fire. Thus, by their fruit you will recognize them.  Not everyone who says to me, ‘Lord, Lord,’ will enter the kingdom of heaven, but only he who does the will of my Father who is in heaven. Many will say to me on that day, ‘Lord, Lord, did we not prophesy in your name, and in your name drive out demons and perform many miracles?’ Then I will tell them plainly, ‘I never knew you. Away from me, you evildoers!’” (Matthew 7:13-23).  To those who don’t think judging is the right thing to do, imagine if the words in this passage were ours instead of Jesus’.  I’d bet you’d be writing us a nasty-gram as fast as you can type.  Also, when Jesus warns us about false prophets, He is indicating to us that we will need to judge whether someone is a false prophet or whether they truly represent God.  We can’t simply take someone’s word for it.  We must judge. The gospels are replete with examples of Jesus being very judgmental.  He calls people names, kicks over tables, calls out evil and demands that we recognize it for what it is.  Read through from the beginning of Matthew to the end of John.  You’ll find these four books can be quite judgmental.

Moving beyond the gospels, we find the epistles to be just as judgmental.  1 Corinthians 5 is a good example.  In this letter to the church at Corinth, the Apostle Paul excoriates the church members for tolerating an immoral church member. Paul says that he has already passed judgment (v. 3) and instructs the congregation to do the same.  In fact, he tells them to expel the immoral man and to stop associating with him!  In his next letter to the Corinthian church, Paul says, “Do not be yoked together with unbelievers. For what do righteousness and wickedness have in common? Or what fellowship can light have with darkness? What harmony is there between Christ and Belial? What does a believer have in common with an unbeliever? What agreement is there between the temple of God and idols? For we are the temple of the living God” (2 Corinthians 6:14-16).  Definitely judgmental!

One of our favorite passages defining why Contender Ministries exists is Galatians 1:6-10 wherein Paul says, “I am astonished that you are so quickly deserting the one who called you by the grace of Christ and are turning to a different gospel – which is really no gospel at all. Evidently some people are throwing you into confusion and are trying to pervert the gospel of Christ. But even if we or an angel from heaven should preach a gospel other than the one we preached to you, let him be eternally condemned! As we have already said, so now I say again: If anybody is preaching to you a gospel other than what you accepted, let him be eternally condemned! Am I now trying to win the approval of men, or of God? Or am I trying to please men? If I were still trying to please men, I would not be a servant of Christ.”  Paul not only judges those who spread a false gospel, but he also makes it clear that we are to judge religious teachings to determine if they are in line with the truth of Scripture or not.  Paul goes so far as to call the Galatians “foolish” (Galatians 3:1) for not exercising sound judgment in matters of doctrine.

The Bible is our guide – our rulebook.  It gives us warnings to avoid false doctrines and be wary of false prophets.  In order to do so, we must make judgments. There’s no other way to know right from wrong if we resist judging.  Indeed, Paul makes it clear that judging is part of the believer’s job description: “Do you not know that the saints will judge the world? And if you are to judge the world, are you not competent to judge trivial cases? Do you not know that we will judge angels? How much more the things of this life!” (1 Corinthians 6:2-3). The cohesive message of the New Testament is that we are to make judgments, but we do so with love and wisdom, and not hypocritically.  Now that you’ve finished reading this article, some of you will disagree and others will agree.  And all of you will have made a judgment in the process.

‘Angel feathers’ in their caps

Question: Who made the following statement? Patricia King? Benny Hinn? Todd Bentley? Pastor David Jones? Joshua Mills? Bill Johnson?

Angels often send us little reminders of their presence as angel feathers, which are small white feathers. These seem to appear from nowhere when we are down and in need of comfort. I remember sitting in a café, watching the rain falling on the pavement outside and feeling blue. Suddenly, a small white feather floated down in front of me and landed on my table. I smiled, knowing the angels were around me, with their comforting presence. [emp. theirs]

Charlie Robinson and his ‘Pillow Fight with Jesus’

Does the word BLASPHEMY ring a bell?!

Charlie Robinson, associate of Todd Bentley and Fresh Fire Ministries1, is known for his off-the-wall super-unnatural stories that go well beyond the usual super-duper fantasy conjured up by many within the hyper-Charismatic camp.

It seems that Robinson just isn’t satisfied with the real Jesus Christ (the One Who is so eloquently revealed within God’s holy and inspired written word; the One Who is God Himself in human form, second Person of the Trinity and Creator of the universe; the sinless Savior Who suffered and died on the cross and arose victoriously from the grave; the One Who returned to heaven to prepare a place for those who truly love and worship Him).

That said, the Jesus described in God’s written word is not the same “Jesus” Robinson described in the following excerpt:

After this wonderful fiery experience, I found myself standing in front of Jesus. He turned and grabbed a big white pillow and …..Full Story

Christmas or Communion?
Here in America, Christmas seems to be a much bigger affair than I am accustomed to in South Africa. Many houses are beautifully decorated, almost every one sports at least some form of Christmas decoration, even if just a wreath on the door or a tree in the window. Millions of Dollars are spent on food, gifts, cards and other paraphernalia that relates to Christmas and even the gasoline stations join in by hiking the price of fuel. So it is not unexpected that I have been thinking long and hard about the holiday, it’s meaning and the reasons why people love to celebrate it so lavishly.
It is clear that it is not a Christian celebration since more unbelievers than true believers celebrate the day. So what is it about the season that people, even unbelievers, find so attractive? It seems to have little to do with Jesus and the message of the Gospel and much to do about money, greed and commercialism. Recently a newspaper headline suggested that we should rather call it “techmas”, referring to the emphasis on technology and technological toys and gifts. Even children seem to agree by pulling their noses up at any gift that does not require batteries.
I can not find a single reference in the whole Bible where the Disciples or the early church celebrated His birth. Come to think of it, there is not a single reference to Jesus ever celebrating His own birthday! There is also no instruction in the whole of the Bible to celebrate the birth of the Savior. Unlike His birth, His death is to be celebrated and to be remembered. Jesus instituted the memorial the night before He was crucified (Matthew 26:26). He instructs the disciples to celebrate it (Luke 22:19) and Paul instructs us to remember the Lord (1Corinthians 11). Yet the vast majority of Westerners will celebrate His birth while ignoring His death! Why?
One of the possible reasons lies in the fact that “gentle Jesus, meek and mild” is a lot more user-friendly and manageable than a bloody Savior on a cross. A baby Jesus in a crib, all cute and cuddly sells product much better than One at whose Name every knee shall bow, and the romance of an “illegitimate” child, born in a stable in an obscure village, and Who rose to greatness is far more appealing than the truth that our sin nailed Him to that tree. A helpless baby who makes no demands, other than for food is much more appealing than a risen, glorified Lord who demands our total love, obedience and devotion.
Thus many people prefer to “freeze” the moment and the Child for ever. That way, He is much less threatening and more manageable. We too like think of God in terms of gifts, giving and presents and not as One Who makes just and holy demands. Above all, men like to confine God to a shape and form in which they can manage and control Him. Is this not one of the ways in which we change the glory of the incorruptible God? (Romans 1:23).
Yes, the Almighty Word became flesh and limited Himself to the body of a baby that was helpless and totally dependant upon His parents for everything. But, He is no longer a helpless, cute baby or even a young man. He is the risen, glorious King of Kings and Lord of Lords. He is the One who will soon come to judge the world, destroy His enemies and establish His eternal Kingdom. Every knee shall bow before Him and every tongue shall confess that He is Lord (Philippians 2:10).
His birth was incidental to God’s wonderful plan of salvation. He had to be born in human form in order to relate to us and to be a faithful High Priest but, He did not come to be born: He came to die! It is not His birth that saves us, but His death and resurrection. Many people like to emphasize Jesus’ life as an example, rather than see Him as the One Who died and rose again. They willingly forget that the message of the Gospel is not His life and death, but rather, His death and life. Yes, we like to see Him as the Lamb of God, but forget that He is no longer dumb before those who slaughtered Him. He now has seven horns which represent his Divine power and authority (Revelation 5:6) and when He speaks, the heavens and earth quake. No longer is there no room for Him in the inn, but heaven is His throne and the earth His footstool (Acts 7:49). No longer is He wrapped in swaddling clothes, but now He is “clothed with a garment down to the feet and girded about the chest with a golden band. His head and hair white like wool, as white as snow, and His eyes like a flame of fire; His feet like fine brass, as if refined in a furnace, and His voice as the sound of many waters; He had in His right hand seven stars, out of His mouth went a sharp two-edged sword, and His countenance like the sun shining in its strength.” (Revelation 1:13-16).
Is it wrong for us to celebrate His birth? Yes, I think it is wrong if we do not give far more importance to remembering His death than His birth. Here’s the catch: How many of us look forward to the Lord’s Table and put as much time into preparing for Communion as we do for Christmas. Most Christians will miss the Lord’s Table for the slightest excuse, yet they will travel thousands of miles to be present at a Christmas celebration. And don’t tell me it’s not about Christmas but that it is time to be with family. So is the Lord’s Supper not a time to be with family? And the excuse that it is a holiday also does not work – every Sunday is a holiday.
You can celebrate Christmas as long as at least twelve times a year (preferably 52 times) you will look forward to, and put as much time into preparing your heart and mind for the Lord’s table as you do for Christmas and if you will spend as much money on giving to the Lord each week as you give to others at Christmas. Isn’t it strange that amid all the emphasis on gifts and giving around Christmas, that this is the month when giving to the church is the lowest of the year! Something has to be wrong with this picture.
For too long the church has allowed the world to shape it’s traditions and values. It should be the other way around. It is time for us to get back to the priorities and principles of the Bible and not of the world. Enjoy your celebrations but determine to give more importance to the Lord’s table than Christmas – that’s the way it should be.

This is a nice article from Discernment 4 Truth

Sheep among wolves

This morning I read Matthew 10 and a particular verse that stayed with me is verse 15
“I tell you the truth, it will be more bearable for Sodom and Gomorrah on the day of judgement than for that town. I am sending you out like sheep among wolves. Therefore be as shrewd as snakes and as innocent as doves.”

Now in the past I always thought this verse applied to people that don’t believe in God and those outside of the church. I read this verse and it struck me who the wolves are. Those within the church that portray a form of godliness, those that claim to know the way but instead they show deception. There are wolves within churches. Could Jesus have been talking about those that actually claim to know God? This verse is not just for those that don’t know God, it is for those who are out there that are influencing the church negatively leading them to another doctrine other than the true gospel.

The verse where we need to be shrewd as snakes and as innocent as doves is towards those who claim to know it all, those in leadership that are blinding the sheep and leading them to another Jesus. Honestly, when I look at the verse the way I now see it, it makes so much sense.

People that have never heard about Jesus or new born christians will embrace truth more than the ‘christian’ who has been in the church for more than 20 years who has the feeling in their heart that they know it all. A person who is devoted to Todd Bently and the lakeland revival is so blinded to the truth that they are harder to rebuke, teach, encourage than the unsaved. The wolves are not those outside the church as their influence is not to steer someone away from true doctrine and a christian will not follow the outsider who drinks and lives in sin, the christian is more likely to be deceived by a self acclaimed apostle or prophet.. They are the wolves. Mind boggling.. and I hope I have made sense here.

It is funny because the one time before walking into the church I had a picture in my mind of the majority of them being wolves and I shut my mind up thinking that I was being silly but looking back, it makes a lot more sense.

The point that I am trying to make is that we really ought to discern more and never be afraid to question what is going on. We have a duty to look out for oneanother in all things. We are sheep among wolves and we need to be focused on the Good shepherd and follow His leading in everything.

“Savage wolves will come in among you and will not spare the flock. Even from your own number men will arise and distort the truth in order to draw away disciples after them.”
Acts 20:29-30

“There will be false teachers among you. They will secretly introduce destructive heresies, even denying the sovereign Lord who bought them – bringing swift destruction on themselves.”
2 Peter 2:1

“Do not believe every spirit, but test the spirits to see whether they are from God, because many false prophets have gone out into the world. This is how you can recognize the Spirit of God: Every spirit that acknowledges that Jesus Christ has come in the flesh is from God, but every spirit that does not acknowledge Jesus is not from God. This is the spirit of the antichrist, which you have heard is coming and even now is already in the world.”
1 John 4:1-3

2 Cor. 11:3-4 “But I fear, lest somehow, as the serpent deceived Eve by his craftiness, so your minds may be corrupted from the simplicity that is in Christ. For if he who comes preaches another Jesus whom we have not preached, or if you receive a different spirit which you have not received, or a different gospel which you have not accepted– you may well put up with it. (you will have to endure it, or you wear it beautifully, and some do).”

Gal 1:6-9: “I marvel that ye are so soon removed from him that called you into the grace of Christ unto another gospel:Which is not another; but there be some that trouble you, and would pervert the gospel of Christ. But though we, or an angel from heaven, preach any other gospel unto you than that which we have preached unto you, let him be accursed. As we said before, so say I now again, If any man preach any other gospel unto you than that ye have received, let him be accursed.”

A PERSONAL TESTIMONY: WHY CHRISTIAN LEADERS SHOULD NOT PROMOTE HENRI NOUWEN

Please read the important article at Lighthouse Trails
Why Christian Leaders Should Not Promote Henri Nouwen
that inspired the diatribe which follows:

I became a big fan of Henri Nouwen after discovering him on the reading list of the Spiritual Formation syllabus at a seminary where I took a few classes a couple of years ago. As an author, I found him to be warm, honest and engaging. He appealed to the scholarly side of me as well. I ended up choosing to write one of my papers for the Spiritual Formation class about two of the books he wrote. (It was a required class – I was enrolled in the Marriage and Family Counseling program).

Early this morning  three things entered my mind when I recounted the religious deception that had occurred in my own life.

1. I had listened to the lies of Satan.

2. When I knew the truth I repented and turned away from the spiritual pride of thinking of myself  as “special”.

3.  I had to warn others of the spiritual deception of “christian divination”, which in truth is witchcraft or fortune-telling.

Moments later I came across these two posts.

Adrift in the River of God

I  don’t recall exactly how it started or when the decisive moment was. I do not know how I got to the point of being so deeply entrenched in apostasy and deception. I can not definitively point to one moment and declare that that is when the deception began and my destructive course was charted. I simply don’t know. What I do know is that I was convinced. I was convinced of my being on the right path. I was one of God’s chosen, His elite, His enlightened ones.  “Get into the River” was our mantra and our manifesto.   In my home church they called us the River People, and I was hopelessly immersed. Those that loved me enough had tried to warn me.  However, I did not want to listen to those I perceived as being beneath me spiritually.  They simply did not understand the river’s flow, I reasoned.  No, I wanted nothing to do with their life-vests; I was happy being adrift.

After my first summer at Morningstar I enrolled in their ministry school. As Joyner was quick to point out, it was not a Bible school per se. The emphasis was on prophesy, dreams, visions, and the supernatural.  We were being trained for the coming harvest and what Joyner referred to as the coming civil war in the church. He was quick to tell us that we represented the blues. Like the ocean and the sky, blue stood for revelation and expanse, spiritual enlightenment, and openness of spirit.

……..Did I have a gift? Was this gift truly from God? If this gift was from God, was this the way He wanted me to use it? What if the gift was not from God? What if I had been engaging in soul reading or fortune telling?  I believed in the gifts of the Spirit but something suddenly felt very wrong.

THE DAY AFTER A PAGAN “HIGH HOLY DAY”

Well, Hallowe’en is over for another year. It is a day, as a Christian, that I typically ignore. My sensible parents never allowed us to participate in the event other than to deposit gospel tracts in the bags of the candy-beggars. (My daddy was a pastor). We always had a great time, though, rounding up various unused items from the household (old belt buckles, other stuff we didn’t want) and added them to their bags of goodies, hooting with glee as we closed the door behind the unsuspecting trick-or-treaters. It continues to be a day that we don’t acknowledge other than as a pagan holiday. It always seemes to weird to me when people greet each other with “Happy Hallowe’en”! Happy? HAPPY!!? Scary, silly, or even devilish would be a more appropriate adjective to describe the event. It troubles me to think of what is going on behind the closed doors of the growing number of Wiccans, earth-worshippers and Satanists on that day. I hear their numbers are growing rapidly as people are turning away from the living God to worship created things. A lot of physical and sexual abuse is taking place behind those closed doors. It was interesting and informative to watch a television show on VisionTV yesterday talking about the true origins of Hallowe’en. They didn’t make any bones about its pagan past and its pagan present, speaking of its growth in popularity throughout North America.

Well, enough rambling. I found a good article about the issue that I thought I would pass on. “What is This? Christians Celebrating Halloween?” written Ray Gano of Prophezine, likens it to the act of adultery, or flirting with an old boyfriend after geting married. If you and your family are still “celebrating” Hallowe’en, you need to reconsider doing that, and ask yourself if it brings honor to Christ.

As you know I have posted many testimonies. This is a very important one.

******************************************************************************************

My name is Donna and I am Bipolar.  About 10 years ago my physician had me on 13 pills a day.  The more I took the worse I became.  I don’t think my third eye opened but I was psychotic and at times felt like I floated out of my body.  Looking back I was absolutely tortured by demons.
Once I felt like two people, one being the real me and the other out to kill me.  I did not want to die of course.  I was on the end of the couch and for some reason I new this “other me” or demon was coming in for the kill.  I knew it was about to overtake “me” and kill me.  I called my mother and screamed, “please come over now!!!! I am going to die!!!”  My entire family came over and I had clumps of hair in my hands and bald spots on my head.  My best friend was there and said my face was so twisted and blue it did not even look like me!  She was scared to get close to me and stood by the door.  I began clawing my face and for whatever reason started screaming for my father to get on his knees and apologize.  My father would not.  I began clawing harder and blood was streaming down my face, and my mother was screaming at my dad.. “Don’t just do it” Looking back my father looked so humiliated on the floor saying he is sorry. HORRIBLE, I cant believe it.  It was like I was possessed and this demon was holding me hostage.
Finally my parents grabbed me, put me in the car, and fought me all the way to the hospital.  I hit the doctor, pulled my IV out and finally ended up in four point restraint.  Not many months after that, I was walking through the house when everyone was asleep and IT came over me to kill myself, a complete peace came over me I haven’t felt in ages, like an Egyptian, I prepared my body bathing, oils, and perfume, sat down at the kitchen table and began swallowing pills.  I was happy!  The next morning my husband found me on the floor blue.  3 days in ICU they said I would not make it, and by the grace of God I woke up!
I have been plagued by demons, alcoholic, and show signs of psychic abilities, and out of body experience.
I love the Lord with all my heart and I am off all meds now and I am much better.  I still struggle with alcohol, please pray.  I know for certain the third eye is a demonic doorway.  People that take dmt immediately see geometry, snakes, dragons, and aliens.  Aliens are demons posing as if they are from another “universe.”
Alister Crowleys’ “ascended master” was an alien and he drew a picture of it, it is an alien.  God said in the end times peoples hearts would fail (heart attack) them when they look in the sky.  I believe it will be UFOs covering the sky, their message, “we are your creators, we are back to EVOLVE YOU to the next level.”
The rapture will be explained by saying they cleansed the earth from the backward thinking individuals so the rest can evolve to the next level.  On you tube new agers all over the place have said their ascended master (demons) have told them they are from Sirius, Pleiadies, Orion, and they are their creator “creative intelligent creator” and the “Great Awakening has already begun.”  I know it sounds crazy but look at the History channel, ALL about UFOs. The Vatican has already put out the anouncement if aliens show up remember they are our BROTHERS!  Go ahead goggle it, Vatican Aliens, It was on Fox News, CNN, everywhere this past May. Crazy!
