OUIJA BOARD — JUST A GAME???

Parker Brothers did not invent the Ouija Board. It had already been around for awhile when it was bought by Parker Brothers in 1966 and turned into a commercial success as a board game. Its beginnings lie in the distant past when an earlier version (a tripod device) was used in the ancient ws of Babylon and Greece to contact departed spirits. The tripod became the pointer now used with the Board, which is printed with the alphabet, the numbers 1-9, a 0 (zero), and the words ‘Goodbye’, ‘Yes’, and ‘No’. There are other boards like this with different names, but with the same history and purpose.

The modern version of this game was developed by a man named Planchette, a spiritualist (someone who contacts the dead as part of their religion). The Board was further transformed around the turn of the century under the direction and ownership of two men, Elijah J. Bond and William Fuld. Fuld’s name can be seen on the Ouija Board today. The name Ouija is a combination of the French and German words for ‘yes’: Oui and Ja. According to Bond and Fuld, the Board suggested its own name. The primary purpose of the board is and always has been to contact disembodied spirits. Contacting the dead is called necromancy, and contacting spirits is spiritism, both strongly condemned by God (Deut. 18:9-12; Lev. 19:31, 20:6; I Sam 28, II Kings 21:6; Is. 8:19, 19:3-4).

The Board’s translated name, ‘yes, yes’, is an ingenious and subtle way to invite spirit contact. Dead people cannot hang around after death; you cannot communicate with a dead person. The practices and techniques of contacting the dead and contacting spirits are used widely in the occult. Although the pointer is often moved intentionally or subconsciously by the players, you are putting yourself in a vulnerable position when using the Board. By ‘playing’ this ‘game’, you are showing an interest in spirit contact. If contact is made, it is demons (evil spirits, fallen angels), not the dead, who are responding. If Satan can disguise himself as “an angel of light” (2 Cor. 11:14), then it is not improbable that fallen angels can disguise themselves as the dead.

The Ouija Board is not harmless just because it is marketed as a game. Satan, the master of deception and seduction, is good at twisting the truth into lies (Gen. 3:1-6; Jn. 8:44). Satan likes disguises and his lies are often disguised as games. The next time you are tempted to play the Ouija Board as a game, look beyond its disguise and see it for what it really is. Think about this: Just what or who are you trying to contact? God tells us to seek Him instead of the dead (Is. 8:19), and Christ “lives forever to plead with God” on behalf of those who believe Him (Heb. 7:25b). Who wants the Ouija Board when you can know the One Who has “complete authority in heaven and on earth!” (Matt.28:18).

If you are wondering about Christ, think on His words in John 5:23b-24, “He who does not honor the Son does not honor the Father , who sent him. I tell you the truth, whoever hears my word and believes him who sent me has eternal life and will not be condemned; he has crossed over from death to life.”

The writings of Madame Guyon (1648-1717) are very popular today in evangelical, charismatic, and ecumenical circles. Guyon was a Roman Catholic who had visions and other mystical experiences and wrote about them in her published works.

Guyon wanted to enter a convent when she was a girl but her parents would not allow it and arranged her marriage to a 37-year-old man when she was only 15. It was an unhappy marriage and she turned increasingly to her mystical experiences and a search for “union with God.”

After he husband died in 1676, she gave herself wholly to her mystical pursuits. She joined a group of ascetic Quietist Catholics led by a Barnabite monk named Francios La Combe. She toured parts of France, Switzerland, and Italy for five years with La Combe, from 1681-86. La Combe taught that meditation of God requires a passive (quiet) state of contemplation that goes beyond the level of the conscious thinking process.

Guyon claimed that she went through a series of spiritual states through her mystical experiences. The first, which she called “union of the powers,” lasted eight years. During this time, she felt drawn to God alone and drawn away from people. The second state, which she called “mystical death,” lasted seven years, during which she had a feeling of detachment from God and was plagued with deep mental depression and thoughts of hell and judgment. She frequently had dark, weird dreams, which she considered a form of revelation. In the third state, which she called “the apostolic state,” she claimed that she was absorbed into and united with God. During this time, she preached, but she did not preach the gospel; she preached mystical experiences.

As she fasted to the extreme and often went without sleep, her mystical experiences increased. She experienced what she thought was union with the essence of God. She had mental delusions or demonic visitations such as envisioning “horrible faces in blueish light.” She went into trances, which would leave her unable to speak for days. During some trances, she wrote things that she believed were inspired (Guyon, An Autobiography, p. 321-324). She claimed that she and La Combe could communicate with one another for hours without speaking verbally. She believed she could speak in the language of angels.

In 1688, Madame Guyon was arrested on heresy charges and imprisoned in a convent for several months. In December 1695, she was again imprisoned, this time for seven years. Released in March 1703, she spent the final 15 years of her life on the estate of her son-in-law.

Her work on prayer, “A Short and Very Easy Method of Prayer,” was first published in 1685.

THE POPULARITY OF GUYON’S WRITINGS

After her death, Madame Guyon’s works were published by a Dutch Protestant pastor named Poiret. In the 1700s, her books were popular among some Lutherans, Methodists, and Moravians.

For many decades, Moody Press has published an edition of Madam Guyon’s Autobiography. It contains no disclaimer of Guyon’s spiritual and doctrinal errors. In fact, the introduction states, “We offer no word of apology for publishing the autobiography of Madame Guyon, those expressions of devotion to her church, that found vent in her writings.”

At its online web site, Campus Crusade compares Madame Guyon’s Autobiography with John Bunyon’s Pilgrim’s Progress and recommends it without reservation.

On visits to evangelical colleges and seminaries, I have noticed that Madame Guyon’s works are featured prominently in the bookstores and are used in courses on spirituality.

Madame Guyon was included in the book Women Used of God by Ed Reese. The Joyful Woman magazine ran a half-page ad for the book in the September-October 1994 issue. The book contains brief biographies of 50 “Women Leaders of the Christian Cause” and is described as “Ideal for young people (especially girls) looking for role models.” In addition to Guyon, these “role models” include radical Pentecostal female preachers Kathryn Kuhlman and Aimee Semple McPherson.

THE ERRORS OF MADAME GUYON

There are some correct and helpful insights in Madame Guyon’s writings, but taken as a whole they are unscriptural and dangerous. Following are some of the errors:

1. SHE EMPHASIZED THE SURRENDER OF HERSELF TO THE CATHOLIC CHURCH WITHOUT RESERVATION.

Madam Guyon spoke of her goal as “perfect obedience to the will of the Lord, submission to the church” (Guyon, Autobiography). She was referring, of course, to the Catholic Church.

2. SHE FOCUSED ON HAVING AN EXPERIENCE OF GOD RATHER THAN KNOWING HIM BY FAITH THROUGH THE BIBLE.

This is the essence of mysticism. To the contrary, though, the Lord Jesus exalted faith over sight and experience (Jn. 20:29). Paul said “we walk by faith not by sight” (2 Cor. 5:7). And faith only comes from the Word of God (Rom. 10:17). It does not come from within or from experiences. Madame Guyon was not Bible centered in her Christian walk, and that is a grave and fatal error.

As we continue through this series concerning the teachings and practices of Bill Johnson were going to look at some of the strange, angel orbs 2unbiblical and occult things that are being promoted in Bill Johnson’s Bethel church in Redding California.  We’re going to look at practices like opening portals, visualization practices, spirit travel, fire tunnels, sozo and conjuring angel orbs.  None of these practices can be found in the Bible, but all of these practices can be found being used in the occult.

Opening portals

Bill Johnson promotes a practice of trying to open portals.  I remember reading the Necronomicon when I was a young man studying witchcraft.  It elaborated on a satanic ritual aimed at opening portals to let demons through.  I read in various white and black witchcraft books about opening portals.  Many New Agers speak about opening portals to let the Ascended masters through and even some people are trying to open portals to let alien beings through.  The Bible never speaks about opening portals but the occult clearly does.  Why is Bill Johnson promoting the practice of opening portals?

The art theme this year is ‘Cult Cargo’ and focuses on a strange being called John Frum.

“Who is John Frum? Across the ages and around the world, the stories all agree: one day he will return, bearing great gifts.”

He is known to us by many names, this Visitor from Elsewhere, dispenser of endless abundance and wielder of mysterious technologies: John Frum, Quetzalcoatl, Osiris, “Bob,”‘ reads the website.

His cargo is splendid, his generosity boundless, his motives beyond our understanding. But across the ages and around the world, the stories all agree: one day he will return, bearing great gifts.

“Then said I unto them, Cast ye away every man the abominations of his eyes, and defile not yourselves with the idols of Egypt: I am the LORD your God.” Ezekiel 20:7

The adherents to this religion are appropriately called “burners”, and the Burning Man Pagan Festival began like this:

“Burning Man stems from a small group of free-spirited artists in the San Francisco area who got together to burn a wooden effigy on the beach in 1986; and the little beach event has grown to an annual gathering of nearly 70,000 attendees and has moved to the Black Rock Desert of Nevada, where hippies, yuppies and wannabe bohemians of every type meet up and enjoy a week of crazy self-expression, self-reliance and communal craziness.” source – Explorer News

Pseudo-Science, Nephilim and Space Alien DNA
Part 1: The Rise of Endtime Occultism
[God] hath made of one blood all nations of men for to dwell on all the face of the earth, and hath determined the times before appointed, and the bounds of their habitation;
(Acts 17:26)
In whom we have redemption through His blood, even the forgiveness of sins: Who is the image of the invisible God, the firstborn of every creature: For by Him were all things created, that are in heaven, and that are in earth, visible and invisible, whether they be thrones, or dominions, or principalities, or powers: all things were created by Him, and for Him:

Prophecy in the News magazine cover, April 2013

People often ask why we spend so much time in the discussion of bizarre topics, like UFOs and hybrid giants. They wonder why prophecy studies give any time at all to weird subjects like mystery lights in the sky, aerial trumpets and explosions, “alien implants” and “the nephilim.” They wonder why some opt for prophetic sensationalism, rather than focusing on the Gospel, or maturing the saints with the Word of God through traditional Bible study.[1]
~Gary Stearman, “The Dark Side of Bible Prophecy”

Many evangelicals now believe that God sent Noah’s Flood to stop the Nephilim corruption of human DNA. From the plain truth of Scripture it is very evident that the “wickedness of man” was very great on the face of the earth before the Flood:

The issue of Indigo Children has resurfaced with my dealings with Christians worried about New Age thought entering the church and its influence on their families.

I accessed a Facebook page called Indigo Children and was shocked to find how many people were experiencing manifestations…especially in the evening. I gather these commentators are not children but adults.

Here was the question posed March 24th, 2012

Did anyone else wake up last night with their heart racing, clammy hands, feeling anxious, but really tired. My nervous system was definitely overstimulated. [David]

Here are some of the unedited comments.

I woke up at 4:44, then again in 5:55…

***

I’ve been wakin up for two weeks at the same time which is 2:30 covered in sweat and wonder where I am and so on

***

feeling the Oneness of the same experience….only got 4 hours sleep as i too got woken up……energy releasing via dreamlands ♥♥

***

uranus is enetering conjunction today so it could be some new energies coming in… ive been having some really vivid and wild dreams myself… one of them was what appeared to be alien disclosure with ships that had a rainbow crystal forma…tion on the top of the craft like a receiver almost… some ships made no sense like one of them had 1 wing petruding from the side of a tube shaped craft… others were brilliant lights… i also saw images in the sky like they were being projected.. i cant remember the images but they were very intriguing and hard to comprehend….

***

I couldn’t fall asleep till 4am, woke up around 6am, feeling anxious, had the worst nightmare, and I felt the pain (my sister pinched me in both my thighs on the inside and the bruises were huge and it hurt like hell)…I’ve been havin’ nightmares for 2 weeks now…and I can’t go to sleep…what does all this mean?

***

Feeling just anxious in general, without cause. I’ve been trying to meditate to balance the energy around me, but I still seem to be absorbing what seems to be in “the air.” Lately this energy disbalance, has been overwhelming and confusing. And the restless nights are just not making it better. Another night of insomnia…

***

Yes. Woke up in a panic last two nights… Got up for a bit but could sense ‘a presence’ around me, so hastilly got back to bed! Can’t be doing with talking to spirit at 3 am!!!

***

I woke up around 4 in the morning feeling panicked and out of breath and could sense something else in the room. There was also a red light coming from the corner, where there are no lights, or even outlets. When I tried to focus on the presence I felt, I experienced a splitting pain in my head that kept me from being able to think. It went away as fast as it started, but I couldnt get back to sleep afterwards.

***

I don’t know about that, but I felt a pressure on my leg, then it turned ice cold for a split second. Then it was hot, and the heat shot up my leg. I’m still kinda wired from it…

***

Very interesting reading everyones comments. I too have been jumping out of my sleep very early 2am, 3:30, 4am and many times at exactly 5:55am four times this week. Feeling a deep pressure in abdomen region upon waking. Like something has been weighing on that area. But it goes away later after waking. Interesting times. Been noticing alot of number sequences lately also, 1:11, 2:22, 4:44 and 5:55.

***

The angels are speaking to you all just meditate and listen ask for there guidence and except it

***

And numbers are there way of telling you they are arround u

***

I know this so open up to them

***

I went to bed @ 10:30 Australia time EXHAUSTED and couldn’t sleep, finally fell asleep around 3:15am after taking FOUR Valiums and still only managed 5 hours of messed up sleep, 9am and I’m trying to crawl out of bed, definitely a lazy Sunday ahead…

***

Yes, it happens a lot, I need some good meditation and some chamomile tea!

***

I’ve been waking up in a panic and have had a general sense of deep anxiety for the past two weeks

***

I had troubled nights those ultimate days as well. I felt bad tonight and I called to beautifull spirists I know : I it was just so beautifull ♥

***

It happened again last night, during the early hours of the morning. I wish I had looked at the clock. I saw an image of my fiance in my dream, only him. Almost like out of no where. very vividly I saw years streaming from his eyes then he spoke, “it is here, again. Look behind you” immediately, I jumped out of my sleep and out of bed but saw nothing. This is happening almost every night.

End of Comments

These are some very alarming aspects to what some of these people are experiencing. There are patterns of numerology, panic, sensations of heat and cold, confusion, insomnia, and presence of spirits.

The numerology can fall into the divination department as people tend to ascribe reasons as to why they see these numbers and what they mean. Unfortunately we see the very same thing happening in some Christian circles. Numbers and codes are thought to be a sign from God which are applied to every kind of situation. Sometimes people think that these numbers lead them to predict the day of the rapture. This is a deception for I have seen hundreds of failed rapture predictions.

Eastern meditation is the most common practice used to enter a spiritual realm. It is simply a method to empty the mind. Passivity is necessary to give ground or permission to the spirit world to enter or use you. Psychotropic drugs also open up the mind.

The most dangerous phrase in the above comments is this one, “open up to them.”

People do not know what they are opening themselves up to. When they do, often they find themselves oppressed by these spirits. This oppression causes the manifestations that are most easily recognized at night. Many I have talked with have experienced depression and heaviness after contacting the spirit world.

Those who do light yoga may never go deep enough into the practice to create the associated problems mentioned. It is recommended to stay away from yoga completely as it cannot be totally separated from its spiritual purpose, which is to prepare one for death and be yoked with Brahma.

Others in the Christian world have also let themselves be oppressed by false anointings, mystical centering prayer, uncontrolled laughter, fire tunnels, etc. They often experience extreme lows and depression after experiencing what they consider spiritual “highs.”

It is important for the person experiencing manifestations to accept their true source. The oppression comes from the demonic world. No good can come from them. They can disguise themselves for a time but their nature is usually made evident.

What is the solution? Jesus Christ.

Some new-agers try to hold onto Jesus partially for protection, while delving into the metaphysical world, but this simply does not work. In the book of Acts we read that when the people learned the truth, they burned all of their magic books in a big bonfire. They rejected the old teachings, the old lie, the serpent, and totally turned away from such things.

New Age teachings are just repackaged old stinky lies from Satan. Reject them, repent of sin that inflates self-love. Let Jesus close the false door that you have walked through. This false door is an exit from truth and an entrance to a hellish life of deception and confusion.

The New Age Jesus is one of tolerance and of love. Jesus is indeed love, but He is also returning as King in Glory as a judge. The New Age Jesus, says there are many paths to God, but the Jesus in the Bible tell us that He is the only way to God the Father. John 14:6

In conclusion I want to post these thoughts from;

http://www.thebereanchronicles.com/indepth_news/indigo_children.html

These Indigo children are being helped along by many witches and New Agers. As they put it,

to bring about the cosmic shift of human evolution or the new awakening of peace on earth.

They would say that we need the wisdom of the ancients, the knowledge of what is possible for humankind that has been known and handed down in all cultures, among all indigenous peoples of the planet.

Today we have children being told, its ok to contact your spirit guide. And people ask these children to tell us of their visions and prophecies.

These Indigo children, try to contact the dead. Many use crystals, occult symbols and idols.

They are being called the Star Children or Crystal Children.

They are consulting with familiar spirits and they do necromancers (one who consults the dead). Many different names are used “trans-channelers,” “channelers,” “trans-mediums”.

The Holy Bible Says:

Satan nearly always comes transformed as “an angel of light, therefore it is no great thing if his ministers also be transformed as the ministers of righteousness; whose end shall be according to their works” (2 Cor. 11:14-15).

These Indigo Children are being defined as “restless, fearless” individuals who “believe in themselves . . . have difficulty with absolute authority,” and “often see better ways of doing things, at home and in school.” They are in every country, every continent, and only a clairvoyant can see their auras. They recommend that Indigo Children attend private New Age schools that focus on individual needs.

The above is a description of a rebellious child. For REBELLION is as the sin of witchcraft, and stubbornness is as idolatry,”

1 Samuel 15:23 KJV

For rebellion is as the sin of witchcraft, and stubbornness is as iniquity and idolatry. Because thou hast rejected the word of the LORD, he hath also rejected thee from being king.

What Does The Bible Tell Us

Deuteronomy 18

The passage that gives the best comprehensive list of the various Occult practices condemned by God is found in Deuteronomy 18:9-14.

“There shall not be found among you any one that maketh his son or his daughter pass through the fire, or that useth divination, or an observer of times, or an enchanter, or a witch, or a charmer, or a consulter with familiar spirits, or a wizard, or a necromancer.

“For all that do these things are an abomination unto the LORD. For these nations, which thou shalt possess, harkened unto observers of times, and unto diviners: but as for thee, the LORD thy God hath not suffered thee so to do.”

All of these forbidden practices are called “abominations of those nations” in the land and dealt with either foretelling the future or magic.

All of the practices mentioned above are forbidden in both the Old and New Testaments.

They are an abomination to God because they usurp His position as the sovereign Lord of the universe and open the door for Satanic deception, and eventually, the destruction of those involved is these things.

Several factors are involved in the reason why the Lord is so opposed to these practices:

(1) Using magic to manipulate one’s circumstances is in essence a futile attempt to flee the Lord’s ethical laws which promote life and blessing.

(2) The use of magic and divination (vv. 10, 14) is a refusal to acknowledge the sovereignty of the Lord in one’s life.

(3) Reliance on these practices automatically teaches one to trust in themselves for their destiny and not the Lord.

This is very dangerous since these practices will almost inevitably lead one into satanic bondage.

It should be clear by now that these Indigo children are if any person is involved in any of these things, even as a passive observer, they should repent and denounce all they have done before God. Turning to Jesus Christ, asking Him for forgiveness and forsaking all of these accursed practices.

We are being deluded with books and false teachings suggesting that we can contact the dead or that we can know more about heaven and hell outside of what the Bible teaches. Please read a timely article from GotQuestions.org.

Question: “What is the Christian view of psychics?”

Answer: The Bible strongly condemns spiritism, mediums, the occult, and psychics (Leviticus 20:27; Deuteronomy 18:10-13). Horoscopes, tarot cards, astrology, fortune tellers, palm readings, and séances fall into this category as well. These practices are based on the concept that there are gods, spirits, or deceased loved ones that can give advice and guidance. These “gods” or “spirits” are demons (2 Corinthians 11:14-15). The Bible gives us no reason to believe that deceased loved ones can contact us. If they were believers, they are in heaven enjoying the most wonderful place imaginable in fellowship with a loving God. If they were not believers, they are in hell, suffering the un-ending torment for rejecting God’s love and rebelling against Him.

So, if our loved ones cannot contact us, how do mediums, spiritists, and psychics get such accurate information? There have been many exposures of psychics as frauds. It has been proven that psychics can gain immense amounts of information on someone through ordinary means. Sometimes by just using a telephone number through caller ID and an internet search, a psychic can get names, addresses, dates of birth, dates of marriage, family members, etc. However, it is undeniable that psychics sometimes know things that should be impossible for them to know. Where do they get this information? The answer is from Satan and his demons. “And no wonder, for Satan himself masquerades as an angel of light. It is not surprising, then, if his servants masquerade as servants of righteousness. Their end will be what their actions deserve” (2 Corinthians 11:14-15). Acts 16:16-18 describes a fortune teller who was able to predict the future until the apostle Paul rebuked a demon out of her.

Satan pretends to be kind and helpful. He tries to appear as something good. Satan and his demons will give a psychic information about a person in order to get that person hooked into spiritism, something that God forbids. It appears innocent at first, but soon people can find themselves addicted to psychics and unwittingly allow Satan to control and destroy their lives. Peter proclaimed, “Be self-controlled and alert. Your enemy the devil prowls around like a roaring lion looking for someone to devour” (1 Peter 5:8). In some cases, the psychics themselves are deceived, not knowing the true source of the information they receive. Whatever the case and wherever the source of the information, nothing connected to spiritism, witchcraft, or astrology is a godly means of discovering information. How does God want us to discern His will for our life? God’s plan is simple, yet powerful and effective: study the Bible (2 Timothy 3:16-17) and pray for wisdom (James 1:5).

“EVANGELICAL” BELIEVES IN BREATHING GOD

From  – www.wayoflife.org

Leonard Sweet, a very influential “evangelical,” believes you can breath God in your nostrils. In his 2012 book I Am A Follower, Sweet quotes Sufi poet Kabir who says, “God is the breath inside the breath.” Sweet then makes the following blasphemous, pagan comment: “All of creation is made alive with the holy breath of the Creator. Breathing Yahweh breath is breathing the holy breath of life. Yahweh. … Our breathing and heartbeat are in tune with the name. Breathe in ‘Yah’ and breathe out ‘weh’ … I guarantee you will relax.”

This heresy is the product of contemplative prayer, which Sweet is recommending in this passage. Sweet is the author and co-author of more than 30 books. He was twice voted “one of the 50 Most Influential Christians in America” by ChurchReport magazine. Rick Warren recommends Sweet’s book Soul Tsunami (his recommendation is printed on the cover). Warren and Sweet collaborated on an audio set entitled Tides of Change, and Sweet spoke at Saddleback Church in January 2008 for a small groups training conference. Sweet has spoken at Bill Hybels’ Willowcreek Community Church. Sweet’s book Jesus Manifesto (co-authored by Frank Viola) was recommended by Southern Baptist Ed Stetzer, who has spoken at Southwide Baptist Fellowship and Trinity Baptist College, Jacksonville, Florida.

Who else is in this group?  Other emergent newagelicals are Brian McLaren, Tony Campolo, Rob Bell, Tony Jones, Eckhart Tolle, Oprah Winfrey, just for starters. Many got their start in theology of mysticism by reading and studying Jurgen Moltmann and Ken Wilbur.

Introduction by  Lou Whitworth

The Early Years

In this essay we will examine the life and work of Edgar Cayce, often called “the sleeping prophet.” Many considered him to be a prophet and healer very popular in the sixties and seventies. Today his influence is stronger than ever as he helped pave the way for the popularity of “channeling.”

Edgar Cayce was born in Hopkinsville, Kentucky, in 1877. His family was ordinary in most ways, except for a current of demonic dabbling and occultism among the males. His grandfather was a water witch and unerringly accurate in dousing for water with the forked limbs of a witch hazel tree. Many of his acquaintances held that he was also able to make tables and brooms “dance.” Edgar’s father was an unwitting Pied Piper of snakes. Apparently snakes loved him and followed him around and even wrapped their bodies around his hat brim if he put his hat down while working in the fields. It unnerved him so much that he moved from the farm into the city and eventually became a justice of the peace.

Edgar Cayce’s childhood was very unique. As a boy he exhibited an occultic tendency to see and hear things that others didn’t see. For example, he had “little playmates” who disappeared when others came around. They always grew with him and stayed his size, but after the death of a neighbor girl who could also see them, they seemed smaller. He realized that he was growing up and would soon lose their companionship.

As a young boy Edgar attended the Christian church and wanted to be a minister. He resolved to read the Bible through once for each year of his life. By age 13 he was working on his thirteenth reading in his favorite place, a playhouse by a creek in the woods, when he heard a humming sound. He looked up to see a woman in brilliant white clothing with wings on her back standing in front of him. She said,…….

THE YEAR 2012 AND MAYAN PROPHECY: IS IT THE END OF THE WORLD?

By Marcia Montenegro, March 2009

“Thus says the LORD, ‘Do not learn the way of the nations, And do not be terrified by the signs of the heavens although the nations are terrified by them.'”

Jeremiah 10.2

The Internet is abuzz about it, and movies are being made on it. It’s not a place or a person that is garnering so much attention, but the year 2012. That year, according to Mayan prophecy, marks the end of a long cycle to time, specifically, the end of a 5,126-year (some say 5,128-year) cycle on the Mayan’s Long Count calendar, a year which also occurs during a particular alignment in the skies.

December 21, 2012 coincides with the winter solstice, and at that time, there will be an alignment of both the sun and the earth with the center of the Milky Way galaxy. This heightens the excitement and speculation, causing many to wonder: What will happen? Will it be the end of the earth as we know it? Will it be the ushering in of a “new consciousness?” Will friendly aliens land or hostile aliens invade? Or is it just another year with no special significance?
