boastinthecross“But far be it from me to boast except in the cross of our Lord Jesus Christ, by which the world has been crucified to me, and I to the world.”

Consider now the crux of Christianity, and why it is we boast in Christ alone: Were a man to somehow achieve the impossible, and by some grit and self-determination, attain sinless perfection in this life, but not be united to Christ by faith, he would be seen, by God, as the most wicked among devils. Our God is a consuming fire of Holiness. “Behold, God puts no trust in his [angels], and the heavens are not pure in his sight; how much less one who is abominable and corrupt, a man who drinks injustice like water” (John 15:15-16)!
