Indeed it seems that the saying, “God hates the sin but loves the sinner” is abounding. Here is a list of scripture that is helpful. Also here is another article stating where the false teaching originated.

I thought the information from The Berean Wife was very important to the source of the coined phrase, Love the Sinner…hate the Sin.
But what happens when the phrase…”love the sinner, hate the sin’ is tossed out carelessly?…it gives people the false hope that removing sin from their lives will save them. They may not truly understand the scope of their sin nature. This is demonstrated by this quote from Augustine.
“It is clear, then, that the man who does not live according to man but according to God must be a lover of the good and therefore a hater of evil; since no man is wicked by nature but is wicked only by some defect, a man who lives according to God owes it to the wicked men that his hatred be perfect, so that, neither hating the man because of his corruption nor loving the corruption because of the man, he should hate the sin but love the sinner. For, once the corruption has been cured, then all that is left should be loved and nothing remains to be hated.”
-Augustine, City of God, p. 304
He is saying that man is not wicked by nature. This is not true.
Look at this quote from Gandhi
“Whereas a good deed should call forth approbation and a wicked deed disapprobation, the doer of the deed, whether good or wicked, always deserves respect or pity as the case may be. ’Hate the sin and not the sinner’ is a precept which, though easy enough to understand, is rarely practiced, and that is why the poison of hatred spreads in the world.”
The Story of My Experiments with Truth:
Is this the source of “Hate the sin and not the sinner”? Was it thrown into a conversation by a non-believer and then repeated by believers?
With the advancement of social media…. we need to test all things we read against the Word of God.

[…] THE BIBLE SAYS GOD HATES SINNERS, NOT JUST THE SIN – Thank goodness someone brought this up. “Love the sinner, hate the sin” was coined by GANDHI! It’s certainly one of the top things not found in the Bible that “Christians” are fond of quoting. The other one at the top is “God helps those who help themselves.” Totally unbiblical. As someone more accurately put it: “God helps those who HUMBLE themselves.” […]
